Biden Aides Targeted in Mental Decline Probe
Congressional investigators intensify efforts to probe Biden aides over alleged concealment of his cognitive decline.
House Oversight Targets Key Biden Officials in Mental Fitness Probe
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has formally requested interviews with several top aides from former President Joe Biden’s administration, citing suspicions that they played central roles in concealing Biden’s significant mental deterioration during his time in office. The move marks a major escalation in the ongoing Republican-led investigation into the alleged cover-up.
Comer sent transcribed interview requests to four high-ranking former White House officials: Neera Tanden, Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and Ashley Williams. According to Comer, these staffers acted “behind the scenes” and “ran interference for President Biden,” shielding the public from the extent of his cognitive challenges. Additionally, Comer is seeking an interview with Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s longtime physician.
“These unelected bureaucrats may have wielded extraordinary influence over the presidency, possibly functioning as de facto decision-makers,” Comer stated. He emphasized that transparency is essential to understanding how executive power was exercised during Biden’s term.
‘Original Sin’ Sparks Renewed Scrutiny
The renewed attention follows revelations in the recently released book Original Sin, which alleges the Biden White House orchestrated efforts to manage public perceptions about the president’s declining health. The book’s co-author described the alleged deception as a political scandal “perhaps even worse” than Watergate. The Oversight Committee, which had already been investigating the issue for nearly a year, is now seeking detailed accounts from the former aides and medical personnel involved.
“The cover-up of President Biden’s obvious mental decline is a historic scandal,” Comer said. “The American people deserve to know when this decline began, how far it progressed, and who was making critical decisions on his behalf.”
Comer’s letters assert that the committee is determined to trace who effectively held executive power during the Biden administration. The requests aim to shed light on who directed policy decisions and managed presidential responsibilities at a time when Biden’s cognitive health was reportedly deteriorating.
Potential Subpoenas Loom Over Key Figures
In the event that the requested individuals do not voluntarily comply, Comer warned that subpoenas would follow. This includes potential action against former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, as well as Biden’s family members, including Jill Biden and Hunter Biden.
“If the trail leads us to the next step, which many believe would be perhaps Jill Biden and Hunter Biden, then we will go there,” Comer stated, underscoring the committee’s intent to pursue all relevant leads.
The Biden White House previously blocked testimony from these individuals, according to Comer. Now, the committee is signaling that such obstruction will be met with what it describes as “swift and decisive action.”
The staffers at the center of the inquiry held significant influence in White House operations. Neera Tanden served as director of the Domestic Policy Council, Annie Tomasini as deputy chief of staff, Anthony Bernal as senior adviser to the First Lady, and Ashley Williams as deputy director of Oval Office operations. All have so far remained silent on the latest developments.
As the investigation intensifies, public and congressional scrutiny over presidential transparency, executive authority, and succession planning is likely to grow, with potential political ramifications in the months ahead.
