Biden Family Hid Beau’s Cancer, Book Alleges

New book claims Biden family concealed Beau Biden’s brain cancer diagnosis and misled public, sparking transparency concerns.

Book Claims Biden Family Withheld Details of Beau’s Illness

A new biography alleges that former President Joe Biden and his family deliberately misled the public about the late Beau Biden’s brain cancer diagnosis while he was serving as Delaware’s attorney general. The book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, authored by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson, was released Tuesday and details how the family concealed the severity of Beau’s condition.

According to the book, Beau collapsed in 2013 during a family vacation and underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. Despite the serious nature of his condition, the Biden family and staff debated internally how much to disclose but ultimately chose to remain silent. In public, Beau told a local reporter in November 2013 that he had received a “clean bill of health.”

“Beau’s cancer treatment also demonstrated the Bidens’ capacity for denial and the lengths they would go to to avoid transparency about health issues,” the book claims. The narrative suggests that the family’s desire to keep details private extended to using aliases like “George Lincoln” at hospitals to maintain anonymity.

Discrepancies and Media Deception Alleged

In early 2014, a neurologist publicly mentioned the removal of a “small lesion,” while Joe Biden later described the tumor as larger than a golf ball. The book asserts that the then-vice president even instructed his staff to mislead the press regarding his whereabouts. Though they claimed Biden was in Delaware over weekends, he frequently traveled to Houston, where Beau was undergoing treatment.

Hallie Biden, Beau’s widow, reportedly expressed confusion over why the illness was kept secret, suggesting the public might have offered support. Yet, both Beau and Joe Biden preferred to shield the details. “Publicly acknowledging Beau’s illness would make it a reality,” the book quotes. “It was them against the world.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the offices of Kamala Harris and the Biden family for comment but received no immediate response. Hallie Biden also declined to comment.

Beau Biden died in May 2015 at the age of 46 from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The book’s release coincides with renewed scrutiny over Joe Biden’s current health. On Sunday, Biden announced he had an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, a claim later walked back by his office, which said he had never received such a diagnosis.

Original Sin is among several publications examining Biden’s reported cognitive decline and the inner circle’s role in masking both his and his son’s health conditions. The book suggests that these episodes reveal a consistent pattern of managing narratives to preserve political viability.
