Biden’s Doctor Subpoenaed by House GOP

GOP subpoenas Biden’s personal physician amid claims of a cover-up of cognitive decline and questionable executive actions.

O’Connor Called to Testify on Health and Influence Allegations

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has issued a subpoena to Dr. Kevin O’Connor, former President Joe Biden’s longtime personal physician, amid escalating accusations of a cover-up regarding Biden’s cognitive health during his presidency.

Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., announced Thursday that Dr. O’Connor is compelled to appear for a deposition on June 27. The move follows what Comer describes as a refusal by O’Connor to appear voluntarily and prior efforts by the White House to block his testimony.

“No autopen was used in the signing of this subpoena,” Comer stated on X, referencing Biden’s past use of an autopen for signing executive actions, which has also come under GOP scrutiny. The subpoena is part of a broader investigation into Biden’s mental fitness, possible concealment of medical conditions, and the legitimacy of certain presidential actions, including the issuance of pardons.

The committee’s release claims the White House previously obstructed efforts to interview Dr. O’Connor on Biden’s medical condition and his alleged involvement in the Biden family’s influence network. “The Committee expressed its interest in whether your financial relationship with the Biden family affected your assessment of former President Biden’s physical and mental fitness,” the subpoena reads.

Physician’s Longstanding Ties to Biden Raise Questions

Dr. O’Connor has been Biden’s personal physician since 2009 and has issued multiple clean bills of health during his time in office. However, speculation over Biden’s cognitive sharpness increased significantly in the spring of 2024, following his diagnosis with prostate cancer and a series of public appearances that drew concern from both conservative figures and members of his own party.

The doctor maintained a low profile during Biden’s presidency, but his relationship with the Biden family has drawn new attention. In a past interview with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, O’Connor praised Biden’s leadership, saying, “I have never had a better commander than Joe Biden… He’s 100 percent ‘family first.’ He’s ‘genuinely genuine.’”

The committee is now seeking to determine whether those personal sentiments and affiliations may have influenced public reporting on Biden’s health and capacity to carry out his duties. Lawmakers also aim to explore whether O’Connor contributed to a broader effort to obscure the president’s condition from the American people.

While the White House has repeatedly stated that President Biden was in good health throughout his administration, Comer and other GOP lawmakers argue that the public deserves direct testimony from O’Connor on how those assessments were reached—and whether political considerations played a role.

The June 27 deposition may become a flashpoint in a larger partisan battle over transparency and executive accountability. As the investigation deepens, Republicans are expected to press for additional witnesses and documentation related to Biden’s physical and mental evaluations during his time in office.
