Democratic Lawmaker Defends Biden on National Podcast

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, has come out in strong defense of Joe Biden’s mental fitness as scrutiny intensifies around the former president’s cognitive health. Appearing on Katie Couric’s “Next Question” podcast Thursday, Crockett dismissed allegations of mental decline and declared that Biden’s mental acuity is “supreme” compared to that of President Donald Trump.

Her remarks arrive as the House Oversight Committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., leads an investigation into whether Biden’s inner circle concealed his alleged decline and bypassed him in decision-making, including the use of an autopen to issue official orders. Crockett countered that she “never saw anything” to question Biden’s sharpness, underscoring her unique access as a member of Congress.

“The average person has not been given the level of access that the average member of Congress has to the president,” Crockett said. “I never saw anything in Joe Biden that made me wonder whatsoever.” She likened Biden’s aging process to that of her grandmother, noting that while physical slowing is natural, mental presence can remain intact.

Rejecting characterizations of Biden as “broken” or mentally deficient, Crockett asserted, “I will take a broken — or however they want to describe Joe Biden — over Donald Trump any given day, because, number one, I know Joe Biden’s heart.” She praised Biden’s legislative focus on the “good of the American people,” contrasting it with what she described as Trump’s prioritization of personal and wealthy interests.

Bipartisan Calls for Equal Standards

Responding to media narratives and political attacks, Crockett called for both leaders to be judged by the same standards. She argued that even “if we want to say — which I refuse to accept — that Joe Biden was mentally deficient, let me tell you something. His mental deficiency is still a thousand times better than what we currently have.” Crockett also credited Biden for keeping a capable team around him and maintaining clarity about America’s allies and national interests.

She further criticized the trade policies and global posturing of President Trump, saying that Biden avoided “getting the U.S. into a global trade war” and always kept “people that would keep us safe in this country.” The congresswoman, regarded as a rising Democratic star, reaffirmed her loyalty to Biden, stating that she had “no regrets” about supporting him despite ongoing political controversies.

The House Oversight Committee’s investigation continues, as lawmakers debate whether Biden’s team circumvented his authority during his time in office. Crockett’s defense marks a significant pushback from Democratic ranks, highlighting the polarized debate over presidential fitness and transparency at the highest levels of government.
