Crockett Criticizes Trump, Rallies Support for Biden Witnesses
Jasmine Crockett calls Trump’s team oppressive, stands with Biden aides, and urges voter education to combat misinformation.
Crockett Denounces Trump “Regime,” Defends Biden Officials
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a progressive Democrat from Texas, made a second unexpected appearance at a closed House Oversight Committee session this week, voicing sharp criticism of the Trump administration and expressing unwavering support for former Biden officials called to testify. Entering the hearing after questioning of former White House advisor Ashley Williams began, Crockett was the only lawmaker seen attending, underscoring her commitment to what she described as “solidarity” with witnesses facing what she called egregious and consistent attacks from the current administration.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Crockett reaffirmed that she had “absolutely” no concerns about President Biden’s mental fitness, while describing the Trump team as a “regime” known for threatening both congressional witnesses and lawmakers. “It is important, in my mind, to be there for these witnesses,” she said. “We know what happens when this regime gets going. We know about the threats that come upon them, that come upon us as members of Congress.”
Crockett also criticized Republican priorities, noting the lack of GOP lawmakers in attendance despite public claims that the investigation into Biden’s administration is of paramount importance. She emphasized her role in “correcting the record,” alleging that Republicans often mischaracterize facts for political advantage.
Calls for Voter Education and Democratic Mobilization
Beyond the committee room, Crockett addressed the broader issue of political engagement on the “Let’s Be Clear” podcast, contending that many voters make choices she considers “wrong” because they are not adequately informed. She clarified that this was not an insult, but a recognition of the challenges ordinary Americans face, from keeping a roof over their heads to caring for families, which limits their time to engage in politics.
“Most people voted the wrong way because they were uneducated,” Crockett said, encouraging Democrats to double down on efforts to inform, organize, and mobilize voters for the upcoming 2026 elections. “Educate, educate, educate, kick, drag, scream, do whatever you have to do, because we say every election is a matter of life and death.”
Crockett acknowledged that mistrust of politicians is widespread and often justified, stating, “A lot of people think that we are crooks, and frankly, a lot of them are. A lot of them think that they are liars and, frankly, a lot of them are.” Nonetheless, she warned Democrats and voters not to succumb to feelings of powerlessness, urging, “Don't feel powerless because the moment that you give in and say that you're powerless, they win. That's what they want you to do.”
As House investigations continue and the 2026 election cycle heats up, Crockett’s actions and words highlight ongoing tensions between party leaders, the role of political oversight, and the importance of informed civic engagement in shaping the nation’s future.
