DHS Offers $1,000 to Self-Deport
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under President Donald Trump announced a new policy on Monday offering financial incentives to illegal immigrants who voluntarily leave the United States. According to the new directive, any undocumented individual who uses the CBP Home App to self-deport will receive a $1,000 stipend upon return to their home country.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem unveiled the program, stating, “If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest, and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest.” She added that the DHS is now providing travel assistance and financial support through the CBP Home App to encourage voluntary departures.
“This is the safest option for our law enforcement, for the individuals, and it results in a 70% savings for U.S. taxpayers,” Noem emphasized. “Download the CBP Home App TODAY and self-deport.”
The DHS clarified that any individual applying for voluntary departure through the app will be deprioritized for arrest, detention, and forced removal before their scheduled exit. In addition, they may become eligible for lawful re-entry into the United States in the future, giving participants a potential legal path forward.
This new approach combines technological convenience with financial incentives, aiming to reduce government enforcement costs and streamline the immigration process. The initiative represents a shift in how the Trump administration handles immigration enforcement by emphasizing self-regulation and cost-efficiency, while still maintaining a strong stance on illegal entry.
