Gabbard: Obama Team Sought to Subvert 2016 Election
DNI Tulsi Gabbard declassifies Russia probe documents, alleging Obama officials tried to subvert the 2016 election.
Gabbard Releases Declassified Russia Probe Documents
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has accused former President Barack Obama and his top national security officials of intentionally seeking to undermine the will of the American people following the 2016 presidential election. Gabbard’s remarks came during an appearance on national television Friday night, where she announced the declassification of more than 100 documents related to the so-called ‘Russia collusion’ narrative and the subsequent probe into then-candidate Donald Trump’s campaign.
According to Gabbard, the documents detail how President Obama, along with senior officials including James Comey, John Brennan, James Clapper, and Susan Rice, made a conscious decision to create and promote what she called a “manufactured, politicized piece of intelligence” in order to cast doubt on Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton. “It lays out, these over 100 documents that I declassified and released, spells out in great detail exactly what happens when you have some of the most powerful people in our country directly leading at the helm,” Gabbard said.
The DNI chief described the effort as a deliberate move by Obama and his team to “not accept the decision of the American people” and to lay the groundwork for a years-long campaign against President Trump. She claimed that the so-called Russia Hoax ultimately resulted in costly investigations, impeachments, and lasting damage to the country’s political landscape. “The years-long Mueller investigation that cost taxpayers almost $40 million to congressional impeachments, endless smears and attacks against not only President Trump, but his family,” Gabbard argued. “We had heightened and increased tensions between the United States and Russia. The list goes on and on.”
Calls for DOJ Action and Accountability
Gabbard announced that she is formally referring the newly declassified documents to the Department of Justice for further investigation, insisting that accountability is “critical” for preserving public trust in the integrity of American democracy. “The American people's ability to have faith and trust in the integrity of our democratic republic is literally what's at stake and therefore the future of our ability to exist as the country that we know it. This accountability is critical to make sure that this never happens again,” she said.
Gabbard also cited the now-discredited Steele dossier, which she claimed was part of the effort to build a false intelligence assessment under Obama’s direction. She emphasized that intelligence officials repeatedly warned the material was not credible, but it was still used to justify the probe.
On Saturday, Gabbard reiterated her position on national media, describing the Obama administration’s actions as a “treasonous conspiracy” and calling for accountability at every level. “No one, no matter who they are, no matter how high up they are or how powerful they may be, no matter who the intelligence officials or professionals were, who were a part of this treasonous conspiracy, there must be accountability,” Gabbard asserted.
Requests for comment from Obama and several of his former national security officials were not immediately answered. The debate over the origins and handling of the Russia investigation is likely to remain a prominent issue as calls for further action intensify.
