Hunter Biden Resurfaces Amid Senate Biden Health Probe

Hunter Biden reappears in Cape Town amid GOP probe into alleged cover-up of Joe Biden’s cognitive health.

Hunter Biden Seen Publicly for First Time Since Cancer Announcement

Hunter Biden was spotted Friday in Cape Town, South Africa, marking his first public appearance since former President Joe Biden announced his cancer diagnosis. Hunter was seen driving a rented Toyota sedan through Sea Point Main Road with his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, and their son, Beau Biden Jr. The family visited a local butcher and paid for parking, drawing attention due to the absence of any visible Secret Service protection.

This outing stands in stark contrast to previous travels where Hunter was regularly accompanied by a full security detail and chauffeured in armored vehicles. That changed in March when President Donald Trump revoked Hunter Biden’s Secret Service detail, ending the extended protection that had been authorized by Joe Biden during his presidency. Secret Service protection for children of former presidents typically ends when they reach the age of 16, barring special circumstances.

Trump’s decision to terminate the detail came during another of Hunter Biden’s trips to South Africa, signaling a shift in protocol and underscoring the political climate surrounding the Biden family post-administration.

Senate Republicans Announce Judiciary Hearing

Hunter Biden’s public reappearance comes amid renewed Republican efforts to investigate Joe Biden’s mental fitness and allegations of a coordinated effort to downplay or obscure his cognitive decline during his time in office. Senators Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) announced plans to convene a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on June 18.

The hearing will examine what they describe as a “conspiracy” to mislead the public about the former president’s mental acuity. The senators allege that members of the media and individuals close to Joe Biden contributed to a deliberate effort to shield his declining cognitive condition from public scrutiny. They are currently gathering witnesses to testify during what would be the first full congressional committee hearing on the matter.

While details of the hearing remain under development, the Republican-led probe is expected to spark further political debate about transparency, media responsibility, and the role of presidential families in public perception.

Hunter Biden has often been a lightning rod for controversy, with his personal travels and legal challenges regularly drawing national attention. His latest appearance in Cape Town, without government protection, reflects a notable shift in his public profile following his father's exit from office and the change in presidential leadership.

As June 18 approaches, the intersection of Hunter Biden’s visibility and the congressional investigation into his father’s health is likely to remain a focus of partisan scrutiny. The Judiciary hearing could set the tone for broader inquiries into how presidential health is communicated to the American public and how families of national figures navigate shifting protections and public expectations post-administration.
