Iran-U.S. Talks in Oman Show Progress

Iran-U.S. Talks in Oman Show Progress

Iran and the United States concluded the fourth round of indirect nuclear negotiations on Sunday in Muscat, Oman. The talks, mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, aimed to address longstanding disagreements surrounding Iran's uranium enrichment program and potential U.S. sanctions relief.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with al-Busaidi ahead of the session to outline Tehran’s key positions. Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s nuclear rights remain central to the country’s approach. Meanwhile, al-Busaidi confirmed that logistical and procedural preparations for the talks had been completed.

The session, which lasted over three hours, was described by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei as “difficult but useful.” He noted, “The fourth round of indirect Iran-U.S. negotiations is concluded; difficult but useful talks to better understand each other's positions and to find reasonable and realistic ways to address the differences.”

From the U.S. side, a senior administration official characterized the outcome as “encouraging.” According to CNN, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff engaged in direct and indirect exchanges with Iranian representatives. “Agreement was reached to move forward with the talks to continue working through technical elements,” the official said.

Iranian officials also highlighted broad domestic support for continuing uranium enrichment. Senior adviser to Iran’s foreign ministry, Hossein Ranjbaran, declared enrichment a “non-negotiable demand of the Iranian people,” citing recent public opinion surveys, although no detailed data was provided.

The negotiations reflect renewed efforts to bridge gaps between Washington and Tehran. Oman will coordinate and announce the timing of the next round, as both sides prepare for continued diplomatic engagement.
