Filmmaker Michael Moore released a revised Pledge of Allegiance on Substack, encouraging Americans to reject Trump’s influence and take daily political action in support of progressive values.

Moore Calls for Daily Activism in Response to Trump-Era Politics

Progressive filmmaker and political commentator Michael Moore on Monday introduced a rewritten version of the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance aimed at galvanizing opposition to President Donald Trump and the broader “MAGA-head” movement. The pledge was published on his Substack platform alongside a call to action for daily grassroots political engagement.

Moore’s new pledge reads: “I pledge allegiance to the people of the United States of America. And to the democracy for which we all stand: One person, one vote, one nation, part of one world, everyone! A seat at the table! Everyone! A slice of the pie! With liberty and justice, equality, and kindness and the pursuit of happiness for all.”

The Oscar-winning Fahrenheit 9/11 director described the pledge as a declaration for those who believe the nation can be improved despite what he views as political dysfunction. “In spite of its MAGA-heads, in spite of its insanity — we’ve decided to fight for its survival,” Moore wrote. He emphasized hope for reform and a desire to “create a true Democracy for which it stands.”

Beyond symbolic language, Moore urged his readers to take action. He suggested tasks that could be completed in under five minutes, including emailing elected officials, calling congressional offices, joining local progressive organizations, or preparing signs for upcoming demonstrations. The post emphasized daily involvement, likening political action to essential bodily functions. “Our lungs do not skip more than 3 seconds without taking a breath. Can we all, all of us, together, pledge to not skip a day right now without taking some simple sort of political action?” Moore asked.

Ongoing Advocacy Against U.S. Political Norms

Moore has long challenged traditional American institutions, frequently directing his criticism toward gun policy. In 2022, he proposed a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would repeal the Second Amendment and establish comprehensive gun control. “The inalienable right of a free people to be kept safe from gun violence and the fear thereof must not be infringed,” he wrote in support of the measure.

The newly proposed pledge continues Moore’s pattern of outspoken political activism, reflecting his opposition to the current administration and his belief that Americans must engage in sustained civic participation. The message encourages not just symbolic protest, but daily, tangible steps in pursuit of what Moore calls “a true democracy.”
