Netanyahu Hails Trump’s Role in Hostage Release

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday expressed gratitude to United States President Donald Trump for his efforts in securing the release of US-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander. Speaking after a call with Trump, Netanyahu highlighted the President’s commitment to Israel and their continued close cooperation.

“President Trump reiterated his commitment to Israel and his desire to continue close cooperation with me,” Netanyahu wrote in a post on X. Alexander, held captive by Hamas since their October 7 attack on Israel, is expected to be released today.

President Trump confirmed the imminent release during a press conference, stating that Alexander would be freed today. He expressed relief and joy at the development, saying, “I thought he was dead. He is coming home to his parents.” Reports indicate that a US envoy and Alexander’s family are en route to Israel to welcome him.

Despite this breakthrough, Israel announced that military operations in Gaza will persist. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel’s objectives remain unchanged, even as efforts to secure the release of remaining hostages continue.

Netanyahu also disclosed his meeting with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, where they discussed implementing Witkoff's plan to secure further hostage releases. As part of these efforts, Netanyahu instructed a negotiating delegation to travel to Doha for ceasefire talks scheduled for Tuesday.

The situation underscores the complex dynamics of the ongoing conflict, balancing military actions with diplomatic negotiations aimed at resolving the hostage crisis. The successful release of Edan Alexander marks a significant humanitarian achievement amid the broader regional tensions.
