Trump Blames Biden for CBP Officer Shooting by Illegal Immigrant
President Trump blames Biden after a CBP officer is shot in NYC by an illegal immigrant released by the administration.
Shooting Sparks Renewed Debate on Immigration Enforcement
President Donald Trump sharply rebuked President Joe Biden following an incident in which an off-duty Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was allegedly shot in the face by an illegal immigrant with a history of violent crime in New York City. Trump’s comments came in the wake of public outrage over the suspect’s release into the U.S. after being detained at the border in April 2023.
The suspect, identified by the Department of Homeland Security as 21-year-old Dominican national Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, was apprehended by Border Patrol near San Luis, Arizona, but released by the Biden administration. Nunez’s criminal history reportedly includes an active warrant for kidnapping in Massachusetts, prior felony arrests, an assault charge, violation of a protection order, a robbery, and a stabbing incident in New York City.
During a press conference, New York City Mayor Eric Adams detailed the extensive criminal background of Nunez, noting an active bench warrant from the Bronx and several violent offenses in the past year. Adams confirmed that after Saturday’s incident in Riverside Park, Nunez was taken into custody and faces additional charges, including attempted murder.
The incident unfolded when Nunez and another suspect allegedly approached the off-duty CBP officer, who was seated in Riverside Park, in an apparent robbery attempt. According to authorities, the officer drew his weapon in self-defense, and both men were shot multiple times. Nunez later arrived at a hospital for treatment, while the officer, whose identity has not been released, is expected to recover.
In his Truth Social post, Trump stated, “Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden. He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED.” Trump accused Democrats of having “flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders,” and demanded strict action: “They must all be thrown out or, in some cases, immediately prosecuted in that we cannot take a chance that they are able to come back. That’s how evil and dangerous they are!”
Trump praised the officer’s bravery, saying he “bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage.” Local officials confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has lodged a detainer against Nunez, which may lead to his removal from the United States after prosecution.
The shooting has reignited heated debate over federal immigration policy, with critics of the Biden administration pointing to this case as an example of the dangers of current border enforcement practices. Supporters of stricter policies have called for reforms to ensure individuals with criminal backgrounds are not released into the country. As the investigation continues, the incident remains at the center of national discussions about immigration, law enforcement, and public safety.
