Trump: Houthis Agree to Cease Attacks

United States President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the Houthis have informed the U.S. government of their intention to stop hostilities, including attacks on maritime vessels. The statement was made during a press appearance at the White House, where Trump was joined by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

“We will honor that and we will stop the bombings [effective immediately]. They have capitulated. But more importantly, we will take their word, [as] they said they will not be blowing up ships anymore and that's what the purpose of what we were doing [was],” Trump stated.

According to the president, the Houthis’ declaration was a pivotal moment that allowed the U.S. to end its military operations in the region. He described the development as “plausible,” expressing optimism that commercial and humanitarian shipping routes would now remain unobstructed in the wake of the truce.

“The ships will now be able to pass through without any obstructions,” Trump added, highlighting the primary goal of ensuring safe navigation through vital maritime corridors.

The announcement marks a significant step in efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and follows months of military activity aimed at neutralizing threats posed by the Houthis. It also signals a shift in Washington’s strategy toward diplomacy and conditional trust.

Observers will be watching closely to see whether the Houthis adhere to their pledge and whether the cessation of hostilities leads to broader stability in affected areas.
