Trump Jr. Says No 2028 Run
Donald Trump Jr. says he has no plans to run for office in 2028, but leaves the door open to a political future someday.
Trump Jr. Addresses Speculation About His Political Aspirations
Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump, clarified his political ambitions on Wednesday by firmly stating he has no intention of seeking public office in the near future. His remarks came during the Qatar Economic Forum, where he was asked whether he would consider running for office following his father's presidency.
While Trump Jr. did not entirely dismiss the idea of a future political career, he emphasized that a campaign in 2028 is not under consideration. "I don't know. Maybe one day… that calling is there," he said, suggesting a distant possibility without committing to any timeline.
Later, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to further clarify his stance. “And FWIW, I’ve always said, while I’ll never 100% rule it out down the line, I have ZERO interest in running for office in 28 or anytime soon,” he wrote. The post appeared aimed at quelling ongoing speculation about a potential political succession plan within the Trump family.
A Historic Legacy and Ongoing Interest
The Trump name has remained central to Republican politics, particularly since President Trump began his second term just four months ago. Given Donald Trump Jr.'s frequent public appearances, political commentary, and staunch support from conservative circles, speculation around his future has persisted.
If Trump Jr. were to eventually run and win the presidency, he would be part of a small historical group. The U.S. has seen only two father-son duos hold the office of the presidency: John Adams and John Quincy Adams, and George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. The potential of a third such pairing naturally draws public and media attention.
However, Trump Jr. has consistently emphasized his interest in policy advocacy and grassroots campaigning over formal political candidacy. He has played a significant role in conservative activism and remains one of the most visible figures in his father’s political orbit.
For now, he appears content to remain on the sidelines of electoral politics, leaving the possibility of a future candidacy open without committing to any specific plans.
