Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize Over Ceasefire
President Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the Iran-Israel ceasefire and halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Congressman Carter Cites Trump’s Historic Diplomatic Effort
President Donald Trump has been formally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize following his central role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran—a breakthrough credited with preventing a further escalation in the region. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., submitted the nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, describing Trump’s “extraordinary and historic role” in ending active hostilities and blocking Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The announcement follows a volatile period in the Middle East, which began when Israel launched a preemptive strike against Iran, alleging Tehran was close to obtaining a nuclear weapon. Over the next several days, Israel and Iran exchanged rocket fire, and the United States intervened with airstrikes targeting three of Iran’s key nuclear facilities. The conflict culminated on Monday when Iran retaliated by launching rockets at a U.S. air base in Qatar. Notably, Iranian officials provided advance warning to U.S. and Qatari authorities, and no casualties were reported.
Late Monday afternoon, Trump declared that the so-called “12 Day War” was ending, announcing a ceasefire intended to take effect overnight into Tuesday. Rep. Carter praised Trump’s influence, writing, “President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible. President Trump also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon.”
Carter’s letter to the Nobel committee argued that Trump’s crisis leadership exemplified “the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.” Carter added, “In a region plagued by historical animosity and political volatility, such a breakthrough demands both courage and clarity. President Trump demonstrated both, offering the world a rare glimpse of hope.”
This is not the first Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Trump, who has received several such recognitions in recent years, though he has yet to win. Earlier this year, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., also nominated Trump, citing his 2024 electoral victory as having a global impact on peace. According to the Nobel Prize website, there are 338 candidates for the 2025 award so far.
Ceasefire Faces New Strains as Accusations Fly
Carter’s symbolic support for Trump comes amid ongoing uncertainty, as Israel has recently accused Iran of breaching the ceasefire agreement—claims Tehran denies. The ceasefire, which ended a rapid and dangerous escalation in the Middle East, remains fragile. The situation highlights the persistent volatility in the region and the challenges facing international peace efforts, even as world leaders and institutions take note of recent diplomatic advances.
