Trump Picks Hermandorfer for Appeals Court
United States President Donald Trump has nominated Whitney Hermandorfer to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The announcement marks the first judicial nomination made by Trump since his return to office.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted Hermandorfer’s career in Tennessee’s Attorney General’s Office, emphasizing her work protecting citizens from what he described as federal government overreach. “Whitney has been serving the Great People of Tennessee, in the Attorney General's Office, where she has strongly litigated in Court to protect Citizens from Federal Government Overreach,” he wrote.
Trump also underscored Hermandorfer’s connections to prominent figures in the judiciary who, according to him, uphold conservative legal principles. “She has a long history of working for Judges and Justices who respect the RULE OF LAW, and protect our Constitution, including Justice Samuel Alito and two fine Supreme Court Justices I appointed in my First Term,” he added.
Hermandorfer’s nomination is expected to draw close attention, as judicial appointments have been a key focus of Trump’s presidency. During his first term, he appointed hundreds of judges to the federal bench, significantly shaping the judiciary.
If confirmed, Hermandorfer would serve on the Sixth Circuit, which handles appeals from federal district courts in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. The nomination is expected to proceed to the Senate for confirmation hearings in the coming weeks.
The announcement signals that judicial appointments remain a priority for the Trump administration’s agenda as it enters its new term.
