Trump Positions U.S. for AI Superpower Status

United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Wednesday that the U.S., under the leadership of President Donald Trump, is "on the verge of becoming an AI superpower." The statement came during a cabinet meeting reviewing the administration’s first 100 days in office.

Bessent outlined how the U.S. economy has evolved into a barbell structure, with high tech and finance on one side, and natural resources—especially energy—on the other. He criticized the previous administration for attempting to diminish the energy sector and credited President Trump’s policies for revitalizing it.

He emphasized that the Trump administration is actively "filling in the in-between" of the economy by restoring precision manufacturing. According to Bessent, this economic rebalancing is made possible by the administration’s implementation of "good trade policies" and "good tax policies," which are designed to strengthen American industry across sectors.

In addition to economic strategy, Bessent confirmed that a long-standing federal IT modernization project, which began in the 1990s, will finally be completed during Trump’s term. This milestone, he noted, is being achieved through the efforts of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.

The combination of AI development, infrastructure overhaul, and industrial resurgence forms a core part of Trump’s renewed agenda. Bessent’s comments underline the administration’s emphasis on technology, productivity, and national competitiveness as it positions the U.S. to lead in the next era of global innovation.
