Trump Warns Iran: More Strikes if Nuclear Efforts Resume
Trump warns of further U.S. military action if Iran resumes nuclear weapons efforts, as intelligence reports spark debate.
Trump Issues New Warning on Iran’s Nuclear Program
President Donald Trump stated Friday that he would not hesitate to order additional military strikes against Iran if Tehran moves to restart its nuclear weapons program. Asked directly by reporters about the possibility of further U.S. action, Trump responded, “Sure. Without question, absolutely.” He reiterated the warning during remarks at the NATO Summit in the Netherlands, emphasizing that any renewed nuclear efforts by Iran would meet swift and decisive American military response.
The comments follow a series of recent U.S. airstrikes targeting major Iranian nuclear facilities. According to General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, more than 125 U.S. aircraft participated in the strikes late Saturday, which aimed to severely degrade Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Trump, addressing the nation after the operation, claimed the mission left the targeted sites “completely and totally obliterated.”
Conflicting Reports and Ongoing Investigations
However, days after the strikes, a leaked Defense Intelligence Agency report suggested that the damage might not have been as extensive as originally claimed, indicating Iran’s nuclear program could recover within several months. Despite this, the U.S., Israeli, and Iranian officials all confirmed significant damage to the three sites hit by U.S. forces.
Trump also took aim at Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had claimed victory over Israel following the attacks. In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that he “saved” Khamenei from death by choosing not to allow either the U.S. or Israel to target him, describing it as sparing him from an “ugly and ignominious death.” Trump suggested, “I wish the leadership of Iran would realize that you often get more with honey than you do with vinegar. Peace!”
As the situation unfolds, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the FBI is conducting an investigation to determine how details of the Defense Intelligence Agency report were leaked to the media. The Biden administration, Israel, and Iran all continue to assess the impact of the strikes, as the prospect of renewed conflict and further military escalation remains a focus of international concern.
