Trump: Zero Tariffs if Canada Joins US

United States President Donald Trump on Monday urged Canadians to elect a prime minister who will focus on cutting taxes and reducing economic barriers. In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated that there would be "zero tariffs or taxes" if Canada were to become the "cherished 51st" state of the United States.

"No more artificially drawn line from many years ago. Look how beautiful this land mass would be. Free access with NO BORDER. ALL POSITIVES WITH NO NEGATIVES. IT WAS MEANT TO BE!" Trump stated, emphasizing the mutual benefits of such a union. He criticized the longstanding financial subsidies provided by America to Canada, arguing that such support "makes no sense unless Canada is a State!"

The comments come just as Canada prepares for a snap federal election, with incumbent Prime Minister Mark Carney and Conservative Party challenger Pierre Poilievre widely viewed as the leading contenders to form the next government.

Trump’s remarks highlight his broader focus on economic integration and cost-saving strategies during his current presidential term.
