U.S. Approves Ukraine F-16 Support Deal

The United States has approved a potential foreign military sale to Ukraine valued at approximately $310.5 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on Friday. The sale, authorized by the U.S. State Department, will provide F-16 Training and Sustainment services along with related equipment aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

The approval comes in response to a request from the Ukrainian government, which sought support for its developing fleet of F-16 fighter jets. The package includes aircraft upgrades, personnel training, spare parts, specialized software, technical documentation, ground support equipment, and comprehensive engineering and logistics assistance.

“The proposed sale will improve Ukraine's capability to meet current and future threats by ensuring its pilots are effectively trained and by increasing its interoperability with the United States through comprehensive training with the U.S. Air Force,” the DSCA said in a statement.

The agency further emphasized that the sale supports international coalition efforts to help Ukraine establish and modernize its F-16 program, which plays a vital role in the ongoing evolution of Ukraine’s air force and its defense infrastructure.

This development is part of a broader U.S. and allied initiative to strengthen Ukraine’s military resilience amid heightened regional tensions. The DSCA noted that the transaction would not alter the basic military balance in the region but would enhance Ukraine’s defensive posture through better integration and preparedness.

Congress has been notified of the sale and will have the opportunity to review and approve the transaction in line with U.S. arms export regulations. Once finalized, the agreement is expected to significantly enhance Ukraine’s operational capabilities and deepen military cooperation between the two countries.
