Former Obama advisor Van Jones urged Democratic leaders to publicly apologize to the American people for covering up President Joe Biden’s mental decline. Speaking in a weekend interview, Jones emphasized that the party must engage in serious self-reflection if it hopes to recover politically after its 2024 defeat.

Referencing recent revelations about internal silence surrounding Biden’s fitness, Jones said Democrats should follow the example set after their 2004 loss, when the party undertook structural changes. “There was a deep internal reflection,” Jones said. “I do not see that happening.”

He continued, “Before we get out here and start trying to tell people why they should like us, we need to look in the mirror, reorganize ourselves, get bad people and bad ideas out of the way. Then we will be able to come forward in the midterm. Right now, we need to apologize to the American people that we were part of something that wasn’t on the up and up.”

Cover-Up Allegations and Fallout

Jones criticized party officials who remained silent despite clear signs of Biden’s declining mental acuity. “There are people who knew and said nothing,” he said. “And that is a crime against this Republic. I think the Democrats are going to pay for a long time for being a part of what is now being revealed to be a massive cover-up.”

In prior comments, Jones dismissed claims that the party did not deceive the public. “A lot was known and wasn’t said. Now it’s leaking out all the time anyway. To have any credibility, people have to quit playing around,” he remarked.

Shortly after Jones’ remarks, Biden’s medical team confirmed he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The president underwent evaluation after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms, leading to the discovery of a prostate nodule. A biopsy revealed a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), with metastasis to the bone.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement said. Biden is currently reviewing treatment options with his physicians.

As scrutiny over the party’s handling of Biden’s health intensifies, Van Jones’ call for transparency reflects growing public demand for honesty in political leadership. The Democratic Party now faces mounting pressure to rebuild trust ahead of the midterms.
