ECB’s Villeroy Slams Trump’s Policies
European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member and Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau criticized the economic direction of the United States under President Donald Trump. Speaking to RTL France, Villeroy stated that Trump's "protectionist policies" are proving ineffective and contributing to economic instability.
"We are in a moment of great economic uncertainty. America doubts its new president: the Trump administration's policies are working against the American economy, they are not working," Villeroy remarked.
Despite concerns about global economic conditions, Villeroy expressed confidence in Europe's outlook. He affirmed that he does not anticipate a recession for France or the broader European region and emphasized that there remains flexibility for potential interest rate reductions. Villeroy also reiterated that no additional inflation is expected for Europe.
His comments come as economic leaders worldwide monitor the impacts of protectionist measures and seek to maintain stability amid growing uncertainty, underscoring tensions between national strategies and broader global market dynamics.
