Gingrich: Biden Autopen Use Could Be Historic Scandal

Gingrich says unknown aides used Biden’s name to wield power, calls it larger than Watergate and a form of elder abuse.

Gingrich Warns of Constitutional Breach Behind Biden’s Autopen Usage

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has warned that the Biden administration’s use of an autopen could be “the biggest scandal in American history,” asserting that unidentified individuals may have exercised presidential authority without legal legitimacy. In an interview with Lara Trump, Gingrich compared the situation to Watergate, claiming this incident far surpasses it in severity due to the implications of unauthorized executive action.

“Sometime, I think it’s probably in 2023, Joe Biden was no longer there,” Gingrich said, suggesting the president had ceased to personally govern while others operated in his name. He argued that attention should be focused not on Biden but on “various Obama people who had infiltrated that system.”

Gingrich cited the commutation of 2,400 individuals in a single day following the 2024 election as a prime example. “You know he didn’t have a clue. Somebody was running the autopen. Somebody was giving them instructions and somebody was making deals somewhere,” he said.

The former speaker emphasized the need to uncover who was involved, asserting that the use of Biden’s identity amid cognitive decline amounted to “elder abuse.”

Trump Orders Investigation; Biden Denounces Allegations

President Donald Trump echoed Gingrich’s concerns, arguing that many of Biden’s pardons may be invalid if they were authorized via autopen without the president’s understanding. Trump has tasked Attorney General Pam Bondi with investigating whether members of Biden’s staff acted deceptively, using the president’s authority to implement policies or issue legal directives without his direct input.

In a statement responding to the launch of the investigation, Biden firmly denied any misuse of his role or mental decline. “Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false,” he stated.

Biden further accused Trump and congressional Republicans of attempting to deflect from their legislative agenda. “This is nothing more than a distraction by Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans who are working to push disastrous legislation that would cut essential programs like Medicaid and raise costs on American families,” he said.

The issue has also drawn renewed scrutiny from members of the press. Mainstream outlets, which were previously hesitant to report on Biden’s cognitive state, have begun revisiting the topic. CNN’s Jake Tapper, once critical of Lara Trump’s early warnings about Biden’s fitness, has since acknowledged the network’s lack of coverage and co-authored a book titled Original Sin detailing the former president’s cognitive decline.

Tapper has reportedly issued a personal apology to President Trump for the earlier dismissal of concerns.

As the investigation proceeds, the administration’s handling of executive powers during Biden’s presidency is expected to remain under intense legal and political examination. Whether the probe leads to formal accountability or becomes another partisan flashpoint remains to be seen.
