Musk Regrets Harsh Trump Posts
Elon Musk walks back harsh posts targeting President Trump, saying some comments during their dispute "went too far."
Musk Apologizes for Escalating Feud
Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk admitted Wednesday that some of his recent posts criticizing President Donald Trump went too far. “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on X, signaling a shift in tone following a heated public clash between the two high-profile figures.
The comments came after Musk criticized Trump’s “big beautiful” spending bill, arguing it contradicted his own efforts to reduce government waste as part of his prior role at the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk, who recently departed the department, had taken issue with spending provisions and expressed his disapproval in a series of controversial posts.
Among the most explosive claims, Musk suggested that Trump appeared in sealed Justice Department files related to Jeffrey Epstein, implying that this was the reason the administration hadn’t made the records public. “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,” Musk posted at the time. The post was later deleted.
In additional messages, Musk accused Trump of being ungrateful, asserted that Trump would not have won the election without his support, and went as far as suggesting Trump should be impeached and replaced by Vice President J.D. Vance. The posts generated significant backlash and added fuel to the growing dispute.
Trump and Musk Ease Hostilities
President Trump responded forcefully, telling reporters he was “very disappointed” in Musk, especially over his criticism of the spending bill. Trump stated that Musk had been aware of the bill’s contents and only objected after the removal of electric vehicle incentives. “Elon’s totally lost it,” Trump told reporters, also suggesting on social media that Musk “went crazy” after being asked to step away from federal policy discussions and losing EV mandates.
Despite the intense rhetoric, both men appear to be deescalating. On Monday, Trump offered a more conciliatory remark: “We had a great relationship and I wish him well — very well, actually.” Musk responded with a heart emoji, suggesting an openness to reconciliation.
The thaw continued when Musk shared Trump’s criticism of California leaders over the handling of anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles. Trump called the situation an “insurrection,” saying leaders should apologize for their failure to maintain order. Musk reposted the message without comment, aligning himself with Trump’s stance.
In another post, Vice President Vance emphasized that “decisive leadership” was necessary to confront the unrest. He shared a screenshot of Trump’s statement, to which Musk responded with two American flag emojis, a symbol of patriotic support.
The weeklong exchange appears to be cooling off, with both Trump and Musk softening their tones. It remains unclear whether their public relationship will return to previous levels of cooperation, but recent gestures suggest that tensions may be subsiding for now.
