Rubio Urges Peace in South Asia

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone call with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir to urge de-escalation amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India. The conversation followed a series of retaliatory airstrikes carried out by Pakistan under what it labeled Operation Bunyan Marsoos.

According to the U.S. State Department, Rubio emphasized the importance of restraint and expressed America’s full support for initiating constructive dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. He warned that continued escalation risked destabilizing regional security and stressed the need for diplomatic channels to remain open.

“Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the United States' commitment to fostering peace and stability in South Asia,” the department stated, noting the urgency of addressing the situation before further conflict could emerge. Rubio also underscored the role of both governments in preventing further violence through transparent and sustained communication.

The call comes amid renewed hostilities following Pakistan’s air operations, which were launched in retaliation for recent Indian military actions. Though details of the initial incidents remain limited, both sides have since raised military alert levels, raising fears of a broader confrontation.

Analysts see the U.S. intervention as a critical diplomatic step aimed at restoring calm and signaling Washington’s continued engagement in regional affairs. As tensions simmer, attention now turns to whether Pakistan and India will respond positively to the U.S.-backed call for peace talks.
