Senate Republicans Probe Biden Era, Ex-Officials Testify

Senate Republicans launch a public hearing on alleged concealment of Biden’s health, questioning former officials.

Key Witnesses to Testify on White House Leadership

Senate Republicans are intensifying their investigation into the alleged cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s reported mental decline, unveiling a witness list for the first congressional hearing on the matter. The hearing, scheduled for Wednesday, will examine whether Biden’s inner circle and the media concealed evidence of the 82-year-old president’s declining health while he was in office.

The witnesses include Theodore Wold, a former acting assistant attorney general at the Department of Justice and deputy assistant to President Donald Trump; Sean Spicer, former White House press secretary and communications director; and John Harrison, a University of Virginia law scholar with previous service in the Reagan and Bush administrations. These individuals are expected to provide their perspectives on the approval process within the White House, constitutional implications, and the media’s role in presidential access.

Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, who is leading the hearing alongside Senator Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., described the witnesses as having “impressive records defending our Constitution and serving in the West Wing.” He emphasized the significance of the proceedings, stating, “This week’s hearing is an important opportunity for the American people to get the answers they deserve about who was really running the country when Joe Biden’s health was obviously declining and the constitutional questions raised by an unfit president.”

Senator Schmitt labeled the alleged concealment of Biden’s health “a threat to our nation” and said the hearing was necessary to prevent similar situations in the future. He added, “The American people are demanding accountability, and this hearing will be the first step in that process.”

House Republicans Advance Parallel Investigations

While Democrats on the committee have not called any witnesses, House Republicans are also pressing for answers regarding decision-making during Biden’s presidency. Representative Buddy Carter, R-Ga., has introduced legislation to form a select committee investigating “the potential concealment of information from the American public” about Biden’s health. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., has called on several high-ranking staffers from the Biden White House for transcribed interviews on their roles in the alleged cover-up.

Of the ten witnesses Comer invited, only four agreed to participate, including the director of Biden's former Domestic Policy Council, senior advisors, and other key staff. As Republicans in both chambers pursue answers about leadership and transparency during Biden’s administration, the hearings are expected to address constitutional concerns and public trust in presidential decision-making.

As the investigation unfolds, lawmakers insist the hearings are essential to restore accountability and clarify the chain of command during a period marked by concerns over presidential fitness. The public session marks the first in what could become a broader inquiry into White House operations and information management in recent years.
