Bruce Springsteen attacks Trump during UK concert, calling his administration corrupt and anti-democratic.
Springsteen Unleashes Political Fury During Manchester Performance
Bruce Springsteen took direct aim at President Donald Trump during a live performance in Manchester, United Kingdom, on May 14, 2025. The remarks, now included in his newly released EP titled Land of Hope & Dreams, were laced with fierce criticism of what he described as a “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.”
The 31-minute digital EP features four live tracks—“Land of Hope and Dreams,” “Long Walk Home,” “My City of Ruins,” and “Chimes of Freedom”—punctuated by Springsteen’s scathing political commentary. Speaking to the crowd, he invoked the power of music in what he called “dangerous times.”
“In my home, the America I love... is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration,” Springsteen said. He urged the audience to raise their voices “against authoritarianism and let freedom ring.”
Before launching into “My City of Ruins,” Springsteen expanded on his critique, telling the crowd, “There’s some very weird, strange and dangerous s--- going on out there right now.” He accused the U.S. government of persecuting dissenters, reversing civil rights gains, and harming vulnerable populations both at home and abroad.
“They’re abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators,” he said. “They’re deporting residents without due process and defunding universities that won’t conform to their ideological agenda.” He went on to accuse the administration of inflicting suffering on workers and failing to uphold American values.
Springsteen's condemnation of the administration culminated with a somber declaration: “A majority of our elected representatives have failed to protect the American people... But the America I’ve sung to you about for 50 years is real. So, we’ll survive this moment.”
Trump Responds With Scathing Attack on Social Media
The comments went viral, triggering a heated response from President Trump, who attacked Springsteen on Truth Social. “I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States,” Trump wrote. He dismissed Springsteen as “not a talented guy” and labeled him “a pushy, obnoxious JERK.”
Trump also referenced Springsteen’s prior support for Democratic candidates, including Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, noting that Harris lost the election to Trump. “Springsteen is ‘dumb as a rock,’” Trump wrote, adding that the singer “ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country.”
The public feud underscores the deep cultural and political divide between the Trump administration and progressive figures in the entertainment industry. Springsteen has long positioned himself as a voice of dissent, often using his platform to speak out against perceived injustice and authoritarianism.
While his latest remarks have sparked renewed debate, Springsteen remains steadfast in his position. His fans responded with cheers during the performance, and the EP has already begun circulating widely online, drawing praise from supporters and scorn from critics.
