Trump Warns Putin, Accuses China of Trade Breach

Trump accuses China of breaking trade deal and warns Putin against delaying peace talks, saying he’s “playing with fire.”

Trump Targets Putin, China During 19th Week in Office

President Donald Trump issued strong warnings to both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leadership during his 19th week in office. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump claimed Putin was underestimating the consequences of his current actions, stating, “What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realize is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!”

The post drew a response from Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council and former president, who suggested Trump’s remarks risked escalating tensions. “I only know of one REALLY BAD thing — WWIII. I hope Trump understands this!” Medvedev replied.

Trump reiterated his stance on Wednesday, warning that Putin has a limited window to approach peace negotiations seriously. “We’re going to find out whether or not he’s tapping us along or not,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “And if he is, we’ll respond a little bit differently, but it will take about a week and a half to two weeks.”

Trade Deal Fallout With China

In addition to addressing the situation with Russia, Trump criticized China’s compliance with a recent trade agreement. The deal, reached in May, stipulated that the United States would lower its tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while China agreed to reduce its tariffs on American imports from 125% to 10%.

Trump claimed China had not honored the agreement. “The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US,” he wrote on social media. “So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!”

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer supported the president’s assertion, stating that China failed to eliminate non-tariff barriers as required. “The United States did exactly what it was supposed to do, and the Chinese are slow-rolling their compliance, which is completely unacceptable and has to be addressed,” Greer told CNBC on Friday.

In response, Chinese embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu called on the U.S. to reverse course. “China once again urges the US to immediately correct its erroneous actions, cease discriminatory restrictions against China and jointly uphold the consensus reached at the high-level talks in Geneva,” he said in a statement.

Golden Dome Offer to Canada

Trump also revived his controversial proposal to integrate Canada into the United States, this time tying it to missile defense cooperation. According to Trump, Canada could receive access to the U.S. missile defense system, known as the “Golden Dome,” under specific terms.

“I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State,” Trump posted on Tuesday.

The statements mark another week of Trump’s combative diplomacy, with global leaders and trade partners facing renewed pressure from Washington. As negotiations continue on multiple fronts, the coming weeks may reveal whether these tensions escalate or evolve into new agreements.
