US Sends Formal Nuclear Proposal to Iran

US Sends Formal Nuclear Proposal to Iran

The United States has formally presented Iran with its first written proposal for a nuclear agreement since negotiations began in early April. The proposal was submitted during the fourth round of talks in Oman, signaling a significant shift in strategy by White House envoy Steve Witkoff, who had previously refrained from making a formal offer.

The proposal details the scope of allowed civilian nuclear activities for Iran, alongside corresponding international monitoring requirements. This development suggests a more structured approach from Washington in seeking a resolution.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is currently evaluating the US proposal in consultation with Tehran's top leadership, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian. Iran has also shared its own terms and responded to US inquiries, indicating a potential path toward compromise.

The exchange reflects a mutual willingness to explore common ground, though significant hurdles remain. The negotiations represent a crucial juncture in efforts to revive diplomatic engagement and manage regional security concerns.
