U.S.–South Korea Trade Talks April 24

The United States and South Korea are scheduled to hold high-level trade talks in Washington, D.C., on April 24. The announcement was made by South Korea’s acting President Han Duck-soo, who cautioned that the upcoming negotiations 'won't be easy.'

Han emphasized his administration’s commitment to pursuing national interest while seeking a balanced outcome. “Our government will direct all of our strength to finding a win-win solution for the two countries by holding calm and serious discussions with the U.S. under the principle of putting top priority on our national interest,” Han said, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.

The talks will take place in a 2+2 format, featuring two top officials from each country. Representing the United States will be Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. South Korea will be represented by Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok and Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun.

The format is intended to promote direct dialogue and cross-sector collaboration on issues ranging from tariffs and market access to broader economic policy coordination. While no specific agenda has been disclosed, the leaders’ comments suggest a focus on achieving outcomes that serve mutual economic and strategic interests.

These discussions come at a critical time for both economies, as global supply chains shift and bilateral trade relationships are reevaluated. With strong political will and senior-level engagement, the April 24 meeting marks a significant opportunity for both nations to reaffirm their economic partnership and address pressing trade challenges.
