Trump Calls Mamdani “100% Communist Lunatic” After NYC Win
Trump denounces Zohran Mamdani’s NYC mayoral win, calling him a “100% Communist Lunatic” and warning of radical policies.
Trump Attacks Mamdani After Shocking NYC Primary Upset
President Donald Trump delivered a scathing response on Wednesday following Zohran Mamdani’s unexpected victory in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump referred to Mamdani as a “100% Communist Lunatic,” arguing that his win marks a new and alarming chapter in the Democratic Party’s shift to the far left.
Trump, returning from a NATO summit in The Hague, contrasted Mamdani’s primary success with earlier left-leaning wins, stating, “It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous.” Trump went on to criticize Mamdani’s personality and appearance, adding, “He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”
Continuing his online barrage, Trump joked that the Democratic Party’s best hope would be a satirical ticket led by Rep. Jasmine Crockett for president and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and her allies as vice presidents, with Mamdani as “future Communist Mayor of New York City.” Trump claimed such a combination would leave America “really SCREWED!”
Democrats Voice Deep Reservations
The sharp rhetoric was not limited to Trump. Some Democratic lawmakers openly questioned Mamdani’s suitability for leadership. Rep. Laura Gillen, D-N.Y., declared, “Socialist Zohran Mamdani is too extreme to lead New York City. His entire campaign has been built on unachievable promises and higher taxes, which is the last thing New York needs.” Gillen also cited Mamdani’s calls to defund the police and a “deeply disturbing pattern of unacceptable antisemitic comments.”
Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., echoed these worries, noting that he had “serious concerns” about Mamdani’s candidacy even before the primary result. “That is one of the reasons I endorsed his opponent,” Suozzi explained, adding that those concerns persist in the wake of the upset win.
The contentious primary result, with Mamdani defeating a field that included former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has fueled broader debate over the Democratic Party’s future direction. Trump’s denunciation and the internal party criticism highlight how Mamdani’s victory is testing the boundaries of mainstream Democratic politics and intensifying national scrutiny on New York City’s political landscape.
As the city prepares for a high-stakes general election, the impact of Mamdani’s campaign—and the backlash from both sides of the aisle—will likely shape New York’s political discourse for months to come.
